Assessment Officer – Building Disputes & Insurance Claims

About the role

The Assessment Officer will evaluate complex building disputes, insurance claim eligibility, and licence applications to ensure fair and compliant outcomes for Queensland’s construction sector. Based in Maryborough, the role blends analytical work with direct stakeholder interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and assess building disputes involving defective work.
• Determine eligibility of insurance claims against regulatory criteria.
• Review and decide on licence applications in line with legislation and policy.
• Provide clear, well‑reasoned decisions that can withstand scrutiny.
• Handle front‑counter enquiries and guide homeowners and licence holders through legislative requirements.
• Maintain accurate records and support internal/external stakeholder events.
• Educate stakeholders on rights, responsibilities and emerging industry issues.
• Build constructive relationships to promote professionalism, compliance and safer construction practices.

Required profile

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to read, interpret and apply legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Strong critical‑thinking and decision‑making capabilities.
• High attention to detail with solid planning, prioritisation and time‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
