Unaccredited General Surgery Registrar – 2027 Training

About the role

The Tasmanian Health Service is recruiting qualified doctors for unaccredited registrar positions in General Surgery for the 2027 training year at Royal Hobart Hospital. The role involves managing acute and emergency surgical cases within the Emergency Surgical Unit, as well as participating in outpatient and elective services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day management of private and public in‑patients and out‑patients.
• Deliver after‑hours emergency surgical cover.
• Rotate through Paediatric Surgery, Trauma, and gain exposure to Vascular Surgery.
• Participate in teaching, research, and multidisciplinary team meetings.

Required profile

• General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration where applicable.
• Successful completion of pre‑employment checks (conviction, identification, disciplinary).

What we offer

• Salary range $134,930 – $189,005 per annum (AUD) in line with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.
• Fixed‑term full‑time contract (1 Feb 2027 – 7 Feb 2028, 76 hrs/fortnight plus protected training time).
