Solicitor – Mining Sector (Perth)

About the role

DLA Piper is seeking a qualified Solicitor with commercial and contentious experience in the mining sector to join its Perth team. You will work on high‑profile, cross‑border transactions and disputes for leading mining clients.

Key responsibilities

• Assist AVZ Minerals with arbitration proceedings (ICSID, ICC) related to the Manono Lithium Project in the DRC.
• Advise POSCO on acquiring a minority interest in Mineral Resources' lithium operations.
• Support a private‑equity fund in capital deployment across Australian mines and metals.
• Provide counsel to the WA mining industry on Shire rates liability for miscellaneous licence holders.
• Advise on acquisition of copper mines in Kazakhstan and on gold tenement portfolio retention, including Mining Warden proceedings.
• Help an Asian steel‑maker implement a green‑steel strategy in Australia.
• Assist with development of South American brine lithium resources and renewable energy project acquisitions.
• Negotiate split‑commodity arrangements for a WA exploration portfolio and support global expansion of a leading Australian mining contractor.
• Draft the Somali Mining Act and Regulations and support administrators in managing a distressed mining project.

Required profile

• Solicitor qualified in Australia or another Commonwealth jurisdiction.
• Demonstrated experience in mining law and a strong commercial mindset.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a high‑performance team and take initiative.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
