Senior/Associate Engineer - Waste and Resource Recovery

About the role

Senior/Associate Engineer – Waste and Resource Recovery role within SMEC’s Waste team, based in Melbourne (or Geelong). The position offers the chance to lead design and construction of landfill and resource recovery infrastructure for a sustainability‑focused organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver landfill and waste infrastructure design projects, including containment cells, capping, lining systems, leachate and gas management.
• Oversee construction phase services such as contract administration, superintendent duties, quality assurance and site supervision.
• Manage waste infrastructure projects from concept through delivery.
• Provide engineering input for landfills, recycling facilities and resource recovery centres.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
• Drive business development activities.
• Mentor and support junior team members.

Required profile

• Environmental or Civil Engineering qualification or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in landfill and waste infrastructure design or construction.
• Proven project management and client relationship capabilities.
• Experience in landfill design is highly regarded.
