Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Universal Consulting Engineers is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and documentation of mechanical building services and infrastructure systems. This full‑time position is based in Bankstown, NSW and offers a hybrid work arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of HVAC, ventilation, and associated mechanical plant for building services and infrastructure projects.
• Develop and review calculations, specifications, and detailed drawings.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines, architects, project managers, developers and external stakeholders.
• Ensure designs comply with performance, safety, sustainability, and Australian codes and standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to project planning and risk management.
• Participate in design reviews, site inspections and technical problem‑solving throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Accredited with Engineers Australia and Fair Trading (Design Practitioner) in Australia.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Proven experience in building services or infrastructure projects within Australia.
• Demonstrated project management and stakeholder communication skills.
• Experience in research and development or innovation‑focused work.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering design for HVAC and ventilation systems.
• Advanced proficiency in CAD and Revit.
• Knowledge of Australian mechanical codes, standards and regulations.
• Sustainable design principles and energy‑efficiency considerations.
