Senior Electrical Engineer – Renewables

About the role

Aurecon is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design and delivery of utility‑scale solar, wind and battery energy storage (BESS) projects across Australia. You will work on projects ranging from tens to thousands of megawatts, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout the full project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver utility‑scale solar, wind and BESS projects from concept through construction support.
• Produce high‑quality deliverables such as single‑line diagrams, equipment specifications, calculations, technical reports and design packages.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, HV/substations, transmission, protection, control, grid‑connection and project management teams.
• Coordinate with offshore and distributed delivery teams to ensure alignment with programme schedules.
• Contribute to Defence sector projects where security requirements apply.

Required profile

• Proven experience in electrical design for utility‑scale solar, wind and/or BESS projects.
• Strong understanding of system interfaces, grid‑forming/follow‑in considerations and safety standards.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering; working toward Chartered status is highly regarded.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with clients, OEMs, contractors and internal stakeholders.
• Collaborative mindset focused on safety, constructability and delivering on scope, budget and schedule.

• Inverter‑based generation, grid‑forming and grid‑following concepts.
• DC collection systems, string and central inverter configurations.
• Medium‑voltage reticulation, switchgear, transformers, earthing and lightning protection.
• BESS architecture including PCS, battery racks/containers, HV/MV integration and auxiliaries.
• Protection, control and metering interfaces, substation and grid‑connection integration.
• Creation of single‑line diagrams, equipment specifications, technical calculations and design packages.
