Senior AML Investigator

About the role

The Senior AML Investigator will join ANZ's Financial Crime Threat Management team to detect, investigate, and mitigate money‑laundering and terrorism‑financing risks. You will lead high‑quality investigations, prepare Suspicious Matter Reports for AUSTRAC, and support the bank’s regulatory reporting obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead investigations into suspicious AML/CTF activity and submit SMRs within regulatory timeframes.
• Set investigative standards and drive continuous improvement of AML/CTF practices.
• Coach and mentor junior investigators, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Communicate with customers through formal Requests for Information and other written/ verbal channels.
• Make decisions on escalated and complex cases, ensuring risk‑appropriate outcomes.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to enhance detection, escalation, and reporting processes.
• Conduct Enhanced Customer Due Diligence for high‑risk profiles.
• Prepare clear investigation reports and maintain audit‑ready documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in AML/CTF investigations within a banking or financial services environment.
• Strong knowledge of AUSTRAC requirements and SMR submission processes.
• Ability to handle complex, high‑risk cases and make sound decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated capability to coach and develop junior team members.
