Senior Accountant - Retail
Fulcrum · Sydney
Job description
About the role
A global direct-to-consumer retail business, supported by a lean central team and an expanding commercial footprint, is entering a phase of process automation, system modernisation and commercial growth. This is not a routine month-end processing role: while management accounting and cash flow forecasting are central, the scope is flexible, with room to grow into FP&A, commercial analysis and decision support alongside the FP&A Lead and Financial Controller. The role links finance with marketing, logistics and buying teams.
Key responsibilities
- Manage, analyse and process partner commission accruals and weekly cash flow schedules with marketing and customer acquisition teams.
- Act as finance contact for major brand partners, including redemption store points and national media partnerships, investigating reconciliation queries and handling regulatory reporting.
- Support FP&A and commercial decisions with variance analysis on operations costs, customer service expenditure and logistics carrier performance.
- Own inventory and margin analysis, tracking stock pricing issues, COGS postings, misc charges and cycle count credibility ahead of month-end.
- Calculate quarterly stock provisions, manage stocktake financial reconciliations and handle intercompany stock reporting.
- Build and maintain weekly cash flow forecasts with the Financial Controller, feeding into annual budgeting and reforecasting.
- Use Microsoft Excel, Dynamics 365 and AI tools such as Copilot to automate processes and fix legacy spreadsheet models.
Required profile
- Tertiary qualification in Commerce or Finance, fully CPA qualified or very close to completion.
- Management accounting or commercial analyst experience in retail, FMCG, logistics or inventory-heavy environments.
- Interest or capability in FP&A, budgeting and commercial modelling, with strong foundational accounting skills.
- Track record of cross-functional business partnering and clear communication of financial numbers to non-finance stakeholders.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 is preferred.
Required skills
- Strong spreadsheet capability and comfort with modern tools or AI (e.g. Copilot).
- Management accounting and cash flow forecasting.
- Inventory valuation, stock provisions and reconciliation.
What we offer
- Dual career path covering accounting and FP&A.
- Birthday leave off as standard, plus an extra week of annual leave after five years of service.
- Performance bonuses linked to results.
- Hybrid office and working-from-home model.
