Principal Engineer - Secondary (Renewable Energy and Utilities)

About the role

CPP, part of Quanta Services, is a high-voltage infrastructure provider connecting renewable energy projects to Australia's electricity grid. It is recruiting a Principal Engineer - Secondary in Melbourne to provide senior technical leadership and support the growth of its Victorian engineering hub. Reporting to the Manager - Secondary Design, you will work with the growing secondary engineering team in Victoria and the national engineering team, acting as a technical authority on complex secondary design outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex secondary design outcomes for high-voltage substation projects across the renewable energy and utility sectors.
• Provide technical and engineering support to the broader team.
• Mentor graduate and junior engineers and help strengthen technical capability across the business.
• Work closely with construction and operations teams so designs are practical and constructible.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or an equivalent discipline; Chartered or Professional Engineer status highly regarded.
• Extensive experience designing secondary systems for high-voltage transmission substations.
• Demonstrated experience leading and managing complex secondary system design projects in the high-voltage and renewable energy sectors.
• End-to-end experience delivering transmission and distribution substation projects, from concept to commissioning.
• Interest in mentoring graduate and junior engineers.
• Experience in an Australian transmission or distribution utility or on renewable grid connection projects is highly regarded.

Required skills

• Knowledge of power system philosophies, industry requirements, client specifications and Australian Standards.
• Ability to act as a technical authority and resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and relationship building with clients, field teams, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
