Principal Consultant - Emissions and Climate

About the role

ERM is looking for a Principal Consultant to join its corporate sustainability and climate change team in Melbourne. The team works with leading organisations to clarify strategic direction, drive organisational change and strengthen the robustness of public sustainability disclosures, turning complex data into actionable insight.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on emissions reporting, climate disclosure and decarbonisation strategy, covering scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon inventory development and disclosures
• Manage projects end to end, including scoping, budget and delivery, and oversee multiple projects
• Build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, and influence decision-makers
• Mentor junior staff and manage a team of junior project managers and consultants
• Ensure deliverables meet an exceptional standard and collaborate internally across service lines
• Drive business development, prepare proposals and pitches, lead responses to large bids and tenders, and grow client accounts

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred in a STEM field
• 10+ years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in carbon accounting
• Experience developing carbon inventories and managing large datasets
• Proven scope 3 emissions accounting experience across a variety of industries
• Experience managing a small team and mentoring others

Required skills

• Carbon accounting and carbon inventory development
• Knowledge of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, NGER Scheme, Safeguard Mechanism and SBTi
• Project management and leadership
• Excellent writing, presentation and client communication skills
