Operator – Lead Smelter & Blast Furnace Plant

About the role

Mount Isa Mines is seeking motivated Operators to join the Lead Smelter – Blast Furnace/Sinter Plant team in Mount Isa, Queensland. This is an entry‑level opportunity for individuals who want to start a career in the mining and metals industry and develop hands‑on technical skills in a residential setting.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain plant hygiene and manage hose installations around the plant.
• Carry out routine plant checks, clean up spills and ensure a tidy work environment.
• Supply tools and equipment to designated plant areas.
• Use hand tools such as crow bars, hammers and jackhammers for routine tasks.
• Run fluxes and other materials through the smelting process.
• Progress to more challenging tasks quickly as operational needs evolve.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated, flexible and committed to high‑standard work.
• Pro‑active approach to safety and continuous improvement.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within a small, on‑site team.
• Current Australian manual driver’s licence.
• Mobile equipment tickets are advantageous.
• Previous industrial experience is highly regarded.
