Media and Communications Officer

About the role

Join the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Marketing and Communications team as a Media and Communications Officer. You will help shape the university’s public image by creating compelling stories, media releases, and digital content that highlight research, teaching and community impact.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, develop and pitch newsworthy stories across the university.
• Write and edit high‑quality media releases, articles and digital content aligned with strategic priorities.
• Manage media enquiries, coordinate interviews and maintain relationships with journalists.
• Support internal communications, digital channels and crisis‑communication activities.
• Coordinate photo and video content production and ensure consistent messaging across all platforms.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification (journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or related field).
• Proven experience in news writing and media relations within a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to work with academics, researchers and senior staff to uncover and develop stories.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

What we offer

• Level 6 salary range $95,986 – $103,873 per annum plus up to 17% superannuation.
