Instructional Coach – Science Teacher
curriculumassociates · Melbourne
Job description
About the role
Curriculum Associates' Stile, a science curriculum for Australian secondary schools, is seeking an experienced science teacher with a passion for instructional coaching and professional learning. The role works alongside schools that implement Stile to improve student outcomes and engagement. It is a full-time position based in a major capital city; if you are not in Melbourne you work from home, and you will travel regularly to schools across your state.
Key responsibilities
- Run implementation meetings with school leaders and Heads of Science, agree on a Science Teaching Excellence Framework focus for the year, and ensure every teacher is set up and confident.
- Tailor professional learning to each school's priorities, bring teachers into Stile Academy and centralised PL days, and give prompt, actionable feedback on their Academy responses.
- Teach a full day of regular science classes in partner schools while the faculty observes, then lead the debrief, modelling explicit instruction, engagement and off-device learning.
- Hold three data reviews per year with each school, reviewing how teachers use Stile and how teaching tracks against the framework, and leaving a clear plan for the next term.
- Build relationships with Heads of Science and school leadership, spot schools drifting before the data does, and act on it.
- Bring feedback from schools back to the product and content teams so schools shape what is built.
Required profile
- A science teacher at heart with real classroom credibility, ideally with secondary science experience; past experience as a Head of Science, instructional coach or learning specialist is helpful.
- Comfortable in front of a principal and proactive in following up with schools.
- Ability to read usage reports and framework rubrics and turn them into plain-language next steps.
- Organised and self-directed enough to manage a diary across a state, with many schools and travel.
Success criteria
- Within 6 months: deep understanding of Stile, the pedagogy and the framework, solo Stilist in Schools days, and data reviews with every implementing and platinum Head of Science in the state.
- Within 12 months: implementing schools retained at 95% and platinum schools renewed at 90% with licence utilisation over 80%; three data reviews per school; well-received PL sessions; Heads of Science describing you as part of their team.
