Human Factors & Systems Integration Lead

About the role

Metro, which operates and maintains Melbourne's train service since 2009, is looking for a qualified and experienced Human Factors professional to lead human factors and systems integration activities across the wider Metro business. The role applies human factors and systems thinking to technical and safety challenges and supports change activities arising from the franchise business. It is a maximum-term, part-time position of 12 months based at the Collins Street office.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out human factors analysis and advise on the delivery and post-implementation stages of projects, change activities and network strategy initiatives
• Capture human factors impacts at a system level and integrate them into design and change decisions, giving evidence-based advice on addressing identified HF risks
• Manage, verify and validate human factors requirements against system integration and system engineering approaches
• Provide technical input to hazard and risk analysis, design and other working groups on human factors and system-level changes
• Monitor, manage and advise on human factors priorities based on HFI analyses and business-critical risks, including at a strategic level
• Develop and deliver training and awareness activities on human factors and systems thinking
• Promote continuous improvement by integrating lessons from past projects into future change activities

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Systems Engineering, Organisational Psychology or a recognised related field
• Strong understanding or experience of HF Engineering, HF Integration, HF Assurance, Systems Engineering and Change Management in safety-critical industries
• Knowledge of relevant HF standards, the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (OHS Act) and Rail Safety National Law and Regulations
• Minimum 5 years' experience applying HF methods and systems thinking in a rail environment, or in aviation, resources, energy, mining or defence
• Experience delivering and influencing HF and change activities, especially in the delivery phase and requirements management
