HR Advisor, Employee Relations

About the role

The Australian Electoral Commission is seeking an APS 5 Human Resource Advisor to provide specialist advice and support on employee relations matters. You will work within the Employee Relations, Wellbeing and Diversity team, contributing to the agency’s enterprise bargaining process and ongoing employee relations initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across the AEC to address employee relations issues.
• Assist in the development and management of industrial instruments such as Enterprise Agreements and s24(1) Determinations.
• Support Code of Conduct and under‑performance matters, providing guidance and reviewing actions under limited supervision.
• Manage the Employee Relations ticket system and inbox, delivering accurate, timely advice backed by research.
• Prepare materials, coordinate stakeholder input, and support activities related to the upcoming enterprise bargaining process.
• Contribute to a range of employee relations projects and ongoing team priorities after the bargaining phase.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity, discretion and accuracy.
• Strong organisational skills, capable of managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Effective communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills to build positive working relationships.
• Excellent written communication, able to produce clear and concise advice.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply HR policies, procedures, employment frameworks and APS legislative requirements.
• Team‑oriented mindset with a commitment to a positive and productive work environment.
