Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead the day‑to‑day finance function for Regal Innovations, a commercial landscaping business. This hands‑on leadership position supports growth and project delivery by providing accurate, timely, and commercially relevant financial information.

Key responsibilities

• Own month‑end and year‑end close processes, including journals, accruals, balance‑sheet reconciliations and management reporting.
• Prepare monthly financial reports, board and management packs, and commentary on performance versus budget, forecast and prior periods.
• Assist with annual budgeting and rolling forecasts.
• Ensure statutory compliance and support external financial reporting requirements.
• Liaise with external auditors and support audit processes.
• Oversee project accounting: job costing, work‑in‑progress, claims, variations, retentions, cost‑to‑complete and margin analysis.
• Partner with project managers and operational leaders to improve project profitability, cash flow and forecasting accuracy.
• Provide financial input into tendering and estimating, including pricing reviews, overhead recovery and margin analysis.
• Identify and escalate early financial risks such as margin erosion, billing delays and working‑capital pressures.
• Maintain strong financial controls across revenue recognition, WIP, cost allocation, payroll, AP, AR and fixed assets.
• Oversee leave accrual reporting and monitor aged debtors.
• Review supplier terms and credit applications.
• Improve and standardise finance systems, reporting tools, workflows and internal controls across states and business units.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading finance functions in project‑based businesses, preferably within construction, maintenance or civil works.
• Strong understanding of month‑end/year‑end close, budgeting, forecasting and statutory compliance.
• Ability to partner effectively with operational teams and provide commercial insight.
• Experience managing external audit processes and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
