Finance Analyst - Insurance (FP&A)

About the role

This role provides financial planning and analysis support to the Australian business, focusing on business performance, portfolio insight and management reporting. Reporting to the Head of Finance, Australia, the Analyst works with Finance, underwriting and operational stakeholders to turn financial and insurance data into clear, actionable insight. It suits an analytically minded finance professional with FP&A experience and insurance industry knowledge, especially across Broker and Coverholder business; experience in the Lloyd's of London market is highly advantageous.

Key responsibilities

• Support annual planning, budgeting and forecasting, including preparing and maintaining financial models and assumptions.
• Prepare monthly management reporting and commentary on actual performance against plan, forecast and prior periods.
• Analyse premium, claims, commission, expenses and other key performance drivers, identifying trends, risks and opportunities.
• Partner with underwriting and operational teams to understand performance, challenge assumptions and support commercial decisions.
• Develop dashboards, reports and presentations for local management and wider Finance stakeholders.
• Support scenario analysis, business cases and ad hoc commercial analysis, and monitor brokers, coverholders, classes of business and portfolios.
• Monitor distribution performance, pipeline, renewals and emerging portfolio trends.
• Assist with reconciliation and interpretation of insurance data across policy administration, finance and reporting systems.
• Monitor premium receivables and broker or Coverholder account positions, prioritising material and ageing balances.
• Support reconciliation and allocation of premium receipts, payments and open transactions, including exceptions and legacy items.
• Prepare reporting on outstanding balances, collection progress, cash visibility and emerging financial risks.
• Support month-end close, management accounts, audit and internal or external reporting.
• Identify improvements to controls, data quality, reporting and finance process automation, and use AI-enabled tools to improve FP&A processes.

Required profile

• Experience in financial planning and analysis, management reporting, commercial finance or a similar analytical finance role.
• Insurance industry experience, including broker and coverholder business models and financial flows; ideally Lloyd's of London experience or knowledge.
• Strong financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis capability.
• Ability to analyse complex financial and operational data and communicate key messages to senior stakeholders.
• Experience with premium receivables, cash allocation, reconciliations, broker account management or related insurance finance processes.
• Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, commerce, economics or a related discipline; CA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent study is advantageous.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Databricks, Power BI or other data visualisation tools (advantageous).
• AI-enabled tools for FP&A, reporting automation, scenario modelling and management insights (advantageous).
• Insurance policy administration and finance systems; knowledge of Subscribe is advantageous.
