Experienced BESS Engineer - Renewable Energy

About the role
Aurecon is seeking an experienced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Engineer to join its Power Generation team in Sydney. You will contribute to the design, delivery and commissioning of utility‑scale BESS and hybrid generation projects, ensuring safety, reliability and sustainability.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and review detailed design documentation for BESS & Hybrid Generation Systems, including single‑line diagrams, specifications, sizing calculations and general arrangement drawings.
- Lead BESS Owner Engineer projects, conducting design and construction reviews to ensure compliance with Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide engineering support for utility‑scale BESS development, aligning technical specifications with contract requirements and stakeholder expectations.
- Collaborate with procurement and commercial teams to evaluate vendor proposals and select appropriate technologies and equipment.
- Offer hands‑on support during execution, including site visits, troubleshooting and technical oversight for successful commissioning.
- Develop concept designs, feasibility sizing and specifications for BESS, Hybrid Generation and Balance‑of‑Plant equipment.
- Engineer grid connection solutions, working with the grid team on high‑voltage network requirements and grid studies.
- Coordinate with Development Managers, engineers and suppliers on design inputs, schedule planning and technical query resolution.
Required profile
- Proven experience as a BESS Engineer on utility‑scale projects.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and industry best practices for electrical design.
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams, including procurement, commercial and grid specialists.
- Hands‑on experience with site commissioning, troubleshooting and technical oversight.
