Executive Director, Whole of Energy Strategy and Transition

About the role

The Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action (DEECA) is creating a new Division to steer Victoria’s transition to renewable energy. Reporting to the Deputy Secretary, the Executive Director will shape the Energy Group’s strategic direction, policy and program delivery, ensuring the state meets its renewable energy and sustainability targets.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead a new Division focused on whole‑of‑energy strategy and transition.
• Drive strategic planning, policy development and delivery of high‑impact programs across the Energy Group.
• Provide governance, align priorities and ensure delivery excellence in a dynamic environment.
• Build and maintain relationships with Victorian Government agencies, other jurisdictions and non‑government partners.
• Embed a high‑performance, customer‑focused culture and develop capability across a large workforce.
• Influence divisional strategy, strengthen partnerships and support outcomes for a renewable energy future.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience within government, with strong policy development knowledge.
• Proven ability to lead large, complex teams and foster a high‑performance culture.
• Strategic thinker capable of navigating ambiguity and synthesising multi‑source information.
• Track record of translating vision into actionable outcomes and challenging the status quo.
• Highly developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across public and non‑government sectors.
• Alignment with the Victorian Public Sector Leadership Capability Framework.
• Experience in the energy sector is desirable but not essential.
