Engineer – Digital Consumer Finance Technology

About the role

Join Westpac’s Digital Consumer Finance Technology team on the Gold Coast to support and optimise the systems that power customer payment and lending platforms. You will work directly with production data, write clean, maintainable code and turn data insights into operational and strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance core payment and lending systems in a regulated environment.
• Write and deploy production‑ready code using Python or R.
• Develop complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation and analysis.
• Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting outputs.
• Collaborate with engineering, data and business teams to resolve system and data issues.
• Improve process automation, system monitoring and documentation within an Agile delivery model.
• Support incident and problem management following ITIL best practices.

Required profile

• Strong SQL expertise with experience handling large structured datasets.
• Hands‑on experience in Python or R for data manipulation and automation.
• Proven ability to create Power BI visualisations and generate actionable insights.
• Experience writing clean, maintainable code and following development best practices.
• Demonstrated analytical skills to identify trends, anomalies and performance issues.
• Ability to troubleshoot systems, analyse logs and root‑cause problems.
• Familiarity with ITIL service management, incident and problem handling.
• Advanced Excel for data analysis and documentation experience.
