Distribution Design Engineer

About the role

Western Power is recruiting a Distribution Design Engineer for a 12-month maximum term contract, based at its new South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, near Tonkin Highway. The role covers technical assessments, design and estimation of distribution network projects, and contract administration.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out technical assessment of Inverter Embedded Generation (IEG) connections
• Produce and/or check designs and estimates for distribution network projects, covering materials, labour, sub-contract services and costing, and provide specialist technical information
• Undertake engineering investigations and take part in process improvements
• Provide technical support to other work groups and identify performance improvement opportunities
• Document variations to procedures, programmes and processes
• Complete documentation, order materials and maintain information in computer systems
• Administer contracts to ensure contractor compliance with specifications, review designs, work performance and works programs, and prepare reports
• Respond to customer correspondence and answer questions from the public, government departments and industry

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Eligible for corporate membership of The Institution of Engineers, Australia
• Demonstrated engineering experience, preferably in an electrical utility
• Experience in design management
• Experience in technical assessment of IEG connections
• Ability to influence and support others using technical knowledge and reasoned argument

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of engineering standards, regulations and procedures, preferably in a distribution network environment
• Technical assessment of IEG connections
