About the role
The Deputy Registrar – Family Law supports the Regional Coordinating Registrar and senior national leaders in delivering high‑quality family law services across multiple Australian courts. This senior judicial position involves presiding over matters, exercising delegated powers and contributing to policy and operational management.
Key responsibilities
- Engage with senior judges, the Chief Justice, CEOs, and national operations staff.
- Liaise with the legal profession, court users and other stakeholders.
- Preside in court and exercise delegated powers under the FCFCOA Act (Division 1 & 2).
- Assist in policy formulation and operational management of the courts.
- Manage large volumes of case information, ensure accurate legal research, analysis and drafting.
Required profile
- Admission as a practitioner of the High Court and/or a State or Territory Supreme Court.
- At least two years post‑admission experience, preferably in family law.
- Ability to exercise judicial discretion and understand the Family Law Act 1975 and FCFCOA legislation.
- Strong civil litigation knowledge and experience in superior courts.
- Excellent autonomy, judgment, communication and stakeholder‑relationship skills.
Required skills
- Advanced legal research, analysis and drafting abilities.
- Proficiency with electronic legal resources and court case‑management systems.
- Comfort with courtroom technology and administrative tools.
What we offer
- Competitive salary ranging from $124,483 to $150,041 per annum.
- Generous superannuation contribution of 15.4%.
