Construction & Maintenance Leading Hand

About the role

The Civil Leading Hand will support the Civil Team Leader in maintaining and improving critical port infrastructure across Flinders Port Holdings sites. You will lead a small team of operators and labourers, coordinating daily activities to ensure work is completed safely, to a high standard, and in line with operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Civil Team Leader in coordinating and delivering civil maintenance and project works on site.
• Act as a hands‑on leader, participating in daily tasks and operating civil equipment.
• Provide daily direction and support to team members, ensuring safe and efficient task execution.
• Promote safety by identifying hazards, managing contractors, and fostering a positive safety culture.
• Conduct daily toolbox meetings and pre‑start briefings to communicate work plans and safety priorities.
• Step into the Civil Team Leader role as required to ensure continuity of supervision during absences.

Required profile

• Civil construction trade qualifications or significant civil experience.
• Essential licences – excavator, front end loader, skid steer, and HR or HC licence, with ability to obtain others as needed.
• White Card and a valid driver’s licence.
• Experience leading small teams, collaborating in a multi‑skilled environment, and communicating effectively.
• Strong understanding of WHS practices, JSEAs, hazard identification, and incident reporting.
• Reliable, proactive, and able to manage time well with minimal supervision.
