Mobile Plant Operator – Signalling Projects

About the role

We are seeking a Mobile Plant Operator to join our Signalling Projects team on a permanent, full‑time basis. Reporting to the Civil Leading Hand, you will operate a range of mobile plant equipment across our rail network to support the safe installation of signalling civil works. The position follows a Monday‑to‑Monday roster (8 days on, 6 days off) based at our Midland depot.

Key responsibilities

• Operate excavators, backhoes and skid steers for civil installation tasks.
• Drive tool trucks, tip trucks and truck‑trailer combinations to transport materials.
• Conduct pre‑start safety inspections and adhere to all HSE regulations.
• Load, unload and move materials using plant machinery, often in coordination with manual labour.
• Communicate progress, issues and safety concerns to supervisors and team members.

Required profile

• Demonstrated commitment to Arc’s HSE management system.
• Relevant certification and experience operating excavators, backhoes and skid steers.
• HR licence with the ability to obtain a HC licence.
• Willingness to work away from home on a regular basis.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment medical, drug & alcohol test and police clearance.
• Basic computer skills and a current First Aid/CPR certificate.
