Environmental Services Assistant – Hospital Support

About the role

The Environmental Services Assistant provides essential non‑clinical support to nursing teams within a busy paediatric hospital. You will assist with patient lifting, transport, specimen handling and maintain a clean environment to help minimise infection risks.

Key responsibilities

• Support nursing staff with patient lifting, movement and transport of equipment and consumables.
• Assist emergency response teams and handle collection/delivery of specimens.
• Restock supplies, manage consumables and ensure timely delivery to clinical areas.
• Perform general cleaning, terminal cleaning of internal and external areas, and waste disposal as assigned.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene to reduce healthcare‑associated infections.

Required profile

• Competent reading and writing of English for safe task execution.
• Physical ability to push/pull waste bins, patient beds and trolleys regularly.
• Understanding of workplace health and safety, including infection control.
• Willingness to work a variable roster, including 24/7 coverage if needed.

Required skills

• Knowledge of infection control procedures.
• Familiarity with hospital waste handling protocols.
