About the role
The organisation is seeking an APS6 Communications Officer to translate complex, sensitive policy matters into clear, strategic messaging for internal and external audiences. This permanent position is based in Canberra and supports the nation’s external engagements and global partnerships.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, draft and deliver high‑quality internal and external communications.
- Prepare briefing materials, speeches, talking points and messaging frameworks for senior executives.
- Support stakeholder‑engagement strategies and communication plans.
- Translate complex policy or program information into accessible content.
- Coordinate executive‑level communications and approvals processes.
- Manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Ensure consistency of messaging across multiple channels and audiences.
- Support governance reporting, meeting papers and related documentation.
Required profile
- Minimum NV1 Security Clearance held prior to commencement.
- Willingness to undergo a police check.
- Proven experience in a Communications Officer or equivalent APS6 role.
- Strong background in government or large complex organisations.
- Excellent written communication with attention to tone and detail.
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
- Demonstrated capacity to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills at senior levels.
Required skills
What we offer
- Indicative salary range $102,266 – $114,988 per year plus superannuation.
- Permanent role with an initial 12‑month contract and a possible 6‑month extension.
