Apprenticeship Opportunities in Shipbuilding Trades

About the role

Austal is offering a range of apprenticeship programmes across its shipbuilding operations. Candidates will join a global maritime contractor and develop practical skills in fabrication, electrical, fit‑out, piping and mechanical trades while contributing to high‑profile defence and commercial projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist experienced tradespeople on shipbuilding projects in fabrication, electrical installation, pipe‑fitting and mechanical assembly.
• Follow safe work practices and adhere to Austal’s quality standards.
• Participate in on‑the‑job training, workshops and certification activities.
• Support the preparation and installation of components in accordance with project specifications.

Required profile

• Completion of a relevant pre‑apprenticeship or equivalent exposure.
• Ability to work safely in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
• Construction White Card (or ability to obtain one).
• Eligibility to obtain a Defence Security Clearance.

Required skills

• Cabinet making and timber technology.
• Electrical work (Electrotechnology).
• Boilermaking and welding.
• Mechanical engineering and fitting.
