Quality Control Inspector – SMP – Alkimos Desalination Project

About the role

Altrad is seeking an experienced Quality Control Inspector (SMP) to support the Alkimos Desalination Project in Australia. The role involves ensuring structural, mechanical and piping installations meet the highest quality standards through rigorous inspections and documentation. You will work closely with site teams, subcontractors and client representatives to promote a “right first time” culture.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspections of structural steel, mechanical and piping works to verify compliance with Australian Standards and project specifications.
• Execute and sign off Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Inspection Test Records (ITRs) throughout all installation stages.
• Attend walk‑downs and final inspections with client representatives and assist in closing punch‑list items.
• Compile and maintain Material Data Records (MDRs), including material certificates, test results and as‑built documentation.
• Monitor subcontractor quality compliance against approved quality plans and procedures.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) processes by documenting and escalating field‑level design deviations.
• Upload and manage quality documentation through client CMS systems.
• Provide technical guidance to supervisors and site teams to minimise rework.
• Investigate and close out Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) and validate as‑built drawings.
• Coordinate and monitor Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) activities with third‑party providers.
• Produce daily and weekly QC progress reports highlighting risks, defects and schedule impacts.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar SMP QC inspection role.
• WS‑10 Welding Supervisor AS1796 certification and/or CSWIP Welding Inspector (WI 3.1).
• Strong knowledge of welding standards, codes and inspection requirements.
• Proven experience completing QA/QC documentation on large industrial projects.
