Planning Officer

About the role

The City of Rockingham is seeking a Planning Officer to join its Planning Services team. In this role you will provide professional advice on town planning matters and support the delivery of development, subdivision and rezoning projects that shape the community.

Key responsibilities

• Process development, subdivision and rezoning proposals in accordance with local legislation.
• Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for council and residents.
• Provide expert advice to the public and internal stakeholders on planning matters.
• Assist with contract and project management activities related to planning projects.
• Ensure compliance with the Residential Design Codes and other relevant statutes.

Required profile

• Degree in Town/Urban Planning or a related discipline.
• Relevant professional experience, eligible for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Understanding of local government operations and planning processes.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of planning legislation, acts and statutes.
• Familiarity with Residential Design Codes and the development approval process.
• Contract and project management competence.
• Ability to interpret and apply environmental and land‑use practices.
