Operator – Heavy Industry (Boyne Smelters)

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to start a career as Operators at Boyne Smelters. No prior experience is required – full training and support are provided, and you will work in a safety‑focused, team‑oriented environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate cranes to set anodes, tap metal and perform cell‑tending tasks.
• Carry out process operations such as cell dressing, beam raising, ore hopper filling, tapping, and bath transfer.
• Drive mobile equipment including forklifts, bobcats, dozers and elevated work platforms.
• Control plant processes via control panels, operate scabble guns, and perform equipment isolation and de‑isolation.
• Transport metal using specialised equipment, prepare furnaces, operate casting pits and ingot machines.
• Inspect products, conduct quality control, operate cutting saws and fabricate M‑straps.
• Handle dross and perform general housekeeping duties.

Required profile

• Current valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and manage workload autonomously.
• Willingness to work in labour‑intensive conditions, confined spaces, at heights and in hot environments.
• Readiness to work a lifestyle roster of 12‑hour shifts, including days and nights.
• Experience with mobile equipment (forklift, EWP, gantry crane, bobcat or dozer) is preferred but not essential.
• Eligibility for Emergency Response Team (ERT) if you have fire service, SES, Surf Life Saver or first‑aid qualifications.
