Mechanical Engineer – Brisbane

About the role

Practical Engineering Australia is looking for a driven Mechanical Engineer to join its growing Brisbane team. This hands‑on role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, from analysis and design through to site work, testing and commissioning, across a diverse range of engineering projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to support design and certification.
• Prepare technical documentation, including reports and certificates of compliance.
• Conduct site‑based inspections, load tests and measure‑ups.
• Support project delivery from concept through detailed design, fabrication and commissioning.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 3‑5+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in consulting or manufacturing.
• Experience applying first‑principles engineering to mechanical and structural systems.
• Familiarity with Australian standards such as AS 4100, AS 3990, AS 4991 and AS/NZS 1170 Parts 0, 1, 2, 4.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Required skills

• Finite element analysis (FEA).
• Strand7 (preferred but not mandatory).
• CAD software – Autodesk Inventor preferred.
• Knowledge of relevant Australian engineering standards.
