Maintenance Officer – Facility Management

About the role

The Department of Primary Industries is seeking a Maintenance Officer to ensure a safe, effective, and research‑ready environment across its Queensland facilities. You will be responsible for day‑to‑day maintenance, on‑call duties, and supporting capital projects that underpin our scientific work.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a safe work environment, including after‑hours and weekend on‑call duties.
• Operate the building management system to monitor and control water, air, and temperature systems.
• Consult and negotiate with contractors and stakeholders on capital projects and maintenance programmes, ensuring on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
• Support risk‑management initiatives covering workplace health & safety, fire, and waste management.
• Implement facility operational and resource maintenance programmes for plant, equipment, water supply, infrastructure and land assets, complying with animal‑ethics standards.
• Maintain quality‑assurance and recording systems for the Research Centre.
• Perform physical tasks such as manual handling (up to 15 kg), moving across varied terrain, and working with chemicals in diverse climatic conditions.

Required profile

• Physical ability to perform manual handling, lifting, and work in outdoor conditions.
• Capability to work independently and collaboratively under supervision.
• Strong initiative, responsibility and adherence to WHS legislation and departmental code of conduct.
• Excellent stakeholder communication and relationship‑building skills.

Required skills

• Operation of Building Management Systems.
• Experience with AgCommander software.
• Experience with Chemwatch software.
