Legal Officer Grade IV – NSW Government

About the role

We are seeking a Legal Officer Grade 4 to join our fast-paced government legal team in Parramatta, Sydney. The role offers a blend of collaborative and autonomous work, allowing you to develop core public-service legal skills across a range of policy and regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Work closely with senior lawyers and multidisciplinary teams to shape legal strategy and policy.
• Undertake research, administrative tasks and provide advice within established standards and delegations.
• Assist with civil, anti-discrimination and commercial advice, litigated claims and disputes for Community Services NSW.
• Review, prepare and negotiate agreements with the Department of Communities and Justice.
• Coordinate sensitive legal communications, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
• Draft ministerial briefing notes and related materials.
• Provide complex legal advice on regulatory and strategic matters affecting CSNSW operations.
• Deliver high-quality legal services in a high-volume environment, meeting deadlines and instructions.

Required profile

• Legal qualification and a practising certificate as a Government legal practitioner issued by the NSW Law Society.
• Current Working with Children Check clearance.
• Ability to obtain a National Security Clearance where required.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire knowledge in statutory interpretation, regulatory compliance, privacy and GIPA matters.
• Strong analytical and communication skills in a public-service context.
