Director – Community Recovery (Job Share)

About the role

The Director will co‑lead the Community Recovery branch in a job‑share arrangement, guiding teams that support human and social recovery after disasters or traumatic events. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will shape strategic change, stakeholder engagement and communication across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert strategic advice to senior leadership on human and social recovery matters.
• Support organisational development and drive the transformational strategy roadmap.
• Design and implement business‑process optimisation, service‑delivery enhancements and risk‑mitigation strategies.
• Oversee planning, intelligence and reporting functions to deliver high‑quality information for decision‑making before, during and after incidents.
• Develop learning and development programmes for a diverse workforce.
• Lead internal and external communication strategies to promote brand awareness and accurate messaging.
• Manage stakeholder relationships across government, NGOs and contract partners.
• Lead projects that strengthen community resilience using proven project‑management techniques.
• Prepare complex reports, briefings and submissions for senior officials and ministers.
• Coach, assess and manage performance of staff within the shared‑leadership model.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in community recovery, disaster management or related public‑service sectors.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic change.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience in intelligence gathering and reporting.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated experience in learning‑and‑development design and delivery.
