Dam Safety Monitoring Engineer

About the role

The Dam Safety Monitoring Engineer will lead the dam safety management programme, providing professional engineering expertise to ensure the long‑term safe operation of the Authority’s dams. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Dam Management Services, the role combines technical oversight, risk management and stakeholder coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Dam Safety team in data collection, evaluation, analysis, inspections, surveillance and incident management.
• Design, develop and implement programmes, policies and procedures in consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct monthly Kariba Dam inspections, investigate unusual incidents and deliver safety reviews with the Dam Maintenance Engineer.
• Participate in dam safety audits and five‑yearly inspections.
• Review and update dam safety management processes and SOPs to meet national and international standards.
• Report programme implementation status, identify risks and propose mitigation measures.
• Prepare annual assessment reports and recommendations for improvement.
• Provide project and contract management services, including tender preparation for non‑capital dam safety contracts.
• Develop annual plans for dam safety activities aligned with the Authority’s corporate strategy.

Required profile

• Professional engineering expertise in dam safety matters.
• Experience leading dam safety management processes and teams.
• Ability to interpret dam behaviour and apply risk‑based decision making.
• Strong coordination skills with internal and external stakeholders.
