Construction Officer – Utilities Construction

About the role

The Engineering Works section of Ballina Shire Council is seeking a Construction Officer to support the delivery, repair and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure across the shire. You will work outdoors as part of a collaborative team, operating plant and machinery to ensure vital utilities are kept in good condition.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up work sites according to plans and specifications.
• Operate and maintain construction plant such as tipper trucks, front‑end loaders and backhoes.
• Assist with the construction, repair and maintenance of pipelines, manholes, storage tanks, valve pits and small sewer pump stations.
• Contribute to the successful delivery of utilities construction projects, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in water and wastewater infrastructure construction and maintenance.
• Ability to operate relevant plant equipment and basic mechanical knowledge.
• Current White Card (Construction Induction) and Class C driver licence with a safe driving record.
• Willingness to obtain Working Near Overhead Power Lines and Traffic Controller tickets if not already held.
