Yard Leading Hand

About the role

The Yard Leading Hand provides hands‑on leadership and supervision of yard and transport operations, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient movement of cargo and vehicles. This role oversees daily transport activities, supports drivers and yard staff, and assists with oversize and heavy‑haul movements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise yard and transport operations, managing workflow and priorities.
• Coordinate vehicle movements, load staging, dispatch sequencing and yard traffic.
• Allocate tasks and direct drivers and yard personnel.
• Act as the primary interface between drivers, supervisors and operations teams.
• Identify and resolve operational issues promptly.
• Participate in loading, unloading and securing cargo on trailers, containers and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations.
• Handle, store and prepare Dangerous Goods according to legislation and company policy.

Required profile

• Previous experience in transport, logistics or a yard environment (essential).
• Experience in a leading‑hand or supervisory role (desirable).
• Current Australian Driver’s Licence (car) and Forklift Licence (LF) (essential).
• Working knowledge of Chain of Responsibility and load‑restraint principles.
• Exposure to oversize/over‑mass or heavy‑haul operations (desirable).
• Dangerous Goods awareness (desirable).
