Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering Lead

About the role

We are seeking a senior leader to provide strategic and technical direction for major transport planning and traffic engineering projects across Queensland. The role involves guiding projects from concept through delivery, strengthening client relationships, and expanding Aurecon’s transport capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, development and delivery of large‑scale transport infrastructure projects.
• Define the strategic direction and standards for the transport planning and traffic engineering discipline.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, particularly with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, to grow the project pipeline.
• Mentor and develop a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Drive innovation through sustainable and technology‑enabled solutions.
• Contribute to bids, secure new work and expand existing client engagements.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience in transport planning and traffic engineering.
• Proven leadership and team development capability.
• Deep understanding of multi‑modal transport (roads, public transport, active transport), with experience in Queensland TMR highly regarded.
• Successful delivery of complex, multi‑disciplinary projects.
• Strong client relationship, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience in winning work, developing bids and growing client portfolios.
• Commercial acumen and ability to drive project performance.
• Relevant degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning or a related field.
