Mechanical Engineer – Water Treatment

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 4‑10 years of experience in municipal water or wastewater treatment to join Aurecon’s award‑winning Water team in Brisbane. The role involves delivering mechanical designs for complex treatment facilities across Southeast Queensland and the broader ANZ region, working directly with government clients and multidisciplinary project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concept and detailed mechanical designs for water and wastewater treatment plants and associated infrastructure.
• Deliver mechanical design packages for pumping stations, fluid‑hydraulic systems and pipework.
• Contribute to feasibility studies, business cases and reference designs.
• Collaborate with civil, process, electrical and digital engineers to produce integrated, constructible solutions.
• Support bids, planning and project delivery activities.
• Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to junior engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 4‑10 years of experience in water and/or wastewater treatment projects.
• Strong mechanical design capability across treatment plants and related infrastructure.
• RPEQ certification or active progress toward registration.
• Clear communication skills and confidence working in multidisciplinary teams.
