Legal Specialist – Workers Compensation & Personal Injury

About the role

Join EML’s Sydney team as a Legal Specialist and make a daily impact on individuals returning to work after injury. You will work closely with the team manager and the broader legal team to provide expert advice and manage litigation within the Workers Compensation and Personal Injury space.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all IfNSW statutory litigation, including authorisations, referrals to the legal panel, evidence requests, teleconferences and hearings.
• Provide sound advice on legislative, regulatory, policy and guideline requirements affecting workers’ compensation claims.
• Assist, manage and review legal advice for s151Z recovery litigation and other statutory workers’ compensation claims.
• Oversee legal referrals and strategic advice, ensuring timely response to legal correspondence.
• Stay current with case law and precedents that affect claims, premiums and the scheme.
• Deliver practical technical advice on strategic claim management.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in a similar role with strong claims‑management and litigation experience within a personal injury environment.
• Excellent understanding of Workers Compensation legislation and associated regulations, including pre‑ and post‑2012 amendments.
• Relevant tertiary legal qualifications; admission and legal practice experience are highly regarded.
