Lead Technical Engineer – Utility‑Scale BESS & Solar

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Technical Engineer to drive the engineering and technical execution of utility‑scale battery energy storage system (BESS) and solar projects. Based in Sydney with hybrid working arrangements, you will influence projects from concept through to energisation and support a growing pipeline of renewable energy developments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver BESS Balance of Plant (BoP) solutions.
• Develop high‑voltage substation designs and integrate them with grid connection infrastructure.
• Create electrical layouts, general arrangements, single‑line diagrams and schematics.
• Define protection, control and power distribution systems.
• Conduct design reviews, provide technical assurance and support tender activities.
• Offer construction support and resolve engineering problems on‑site.
• Collaborate with business development, project delivery and engineering teams to ensure technical soundness and commercial viability.

Required profile

• Proven experience on utility‑scale BESS, solar or substation projects.
• Strong Balance of Plant expertise for large‑scale battery installations.
• Hands‑on high‑voltage substation design experience.
• Familiarity with grid connection infrastructure and high‑voltage systems.
• Background in EPC, developer, contractor or consulting environments.
• Ability to work autonomously, make sound engineering decisions and communicate technical concepts clearly.
