Laboratory Technician – Photon Assay Specialist

About the role

SGS Australia is looking for a motivated Laboratory Technician (Photon Operator) to join its Perth laboratory. The successful candidate will perform geochemical sample analysis using Photon Assay technology while upholding the company’s high standards for safety, quality and productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct Photon Assay analysis of geochemical samples following established procedures.
• Troubleshoot analytical issues and coordinate with the instrument maintenance team when needed.
• Batch laboratory samples in the G6 system and ensure accurate documentation.
• Collaborate with Sample Preparation and GBS teams to meet turnaround times and job priorities.
• Maintain production outputs, record daily metrics and provide clear handover notes between shifts.
• Assist with routine sample preparation tasks such as sorting, crushing and pulverising.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Laboratory Skills (preferred) or equivalent experience.
• Previous experience working in a laboratory environment.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Experience working within quality systems and meeting deadlines under pressure.
• Attention to detail and problem‑solving capability.

Required skills

• Photon Assay technology operation.
• G6 batch processing instrument.
• Sample preparation techniques (sorting, crushing, pulverising).
