IP and Commercial Lawyer – Sydney

About the role

Alder IP is seeking a full‑time IP and Commercial Lawyer to join its Sydney team. Based in Chatswood, you will work directly with innovators and businesses to protect and commercialise intellectual property across Australia and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on IP strategies, including patents, trade marks, licensing and assignment.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts such as licensing, collaboration, confidentiality and service agreements.
• Provide practical legal advice on corporate, data‑privacy and broader commercial matters.
• Conduct legal research, prepare opinions, and manage matters from instruction to completion.
• Collaborate with patent and trade‑mark attorneys to deliver integrated client solutions.
• Support business‑development activities, including client training, presentations and thought‑leadership initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong grounding in law with a focus on intellectual property and commercial law.
• Admitted or eligible for admission to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Proven ability to identify legal issues and deliver clear, solution‑oriented advice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts to non‑legal stakeholders.
• Client‑centric mindset with strong analytical, research and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience with technology, AI, IT, medical‑device or innovation‑driven sectors is highly regarded.
