Finance Owner / Financial Controller

About the role

IT how to is seeking a Finance Owner / Financial Controller to take full ownership of the finance function. This is a hands‑on, commercially driven role focused on building a self‑running financial system, delivering predictable cash flow, and removing the CEO from day‑to‑day financial operations.

Key responsibilities

• Own daily and weekly cash‑flow management and maintain a 13‑week rolling forecast.
• Produce weekly finance packs, monthly P&L, margin reporting and provide actionable insights.
• Ensure accurate invoicing, drive collections, and improve billing automation (including direct debit).
• Oversee accounts payable, payroll coordination, reconciliations and maintain strong internal controls.
• Monitor gross margins, identify inefficiencies and support pricing and profitability decisions.
• Own and improve financial systems (Xero, PSA tools) and introduce process automation.
• Lead weekly finance review meetings and communicate clearly with senior leadership.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in finance or accounting roles.
• Background in SME or service‑based businesses.
• Commercially minded with a focus on delivering outcomes rather than just tasks.

Required skills

• Xero accounting software.
• PSA (Professional Services Automation) tools.
