Director – Legal Services (Commercial)

About the role

The Attorney General's Department is seeking a Director for its Legal Services – Commercial unit in Darwin. The role involves leading the provision of high‑quality legal advice to the Northern Territory Government and its agencies, ensuring services are timely, cost‑effective and aligned with strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the Commercial Division, managing and supervising legal staff to deliver optimal legal services.
• Collaborate with the Solicitor for the Northern Territory on policy and operational matters.
• Ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks across all commercial legal matters.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve service delivery and cost efficiency.
• Represent the department in high‑profile negotiations and stakeholder engagements.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in commercial law, preferably within government or public sector.
• Proven leadership and management capabilities at an executive level.
• Strong understanding of the Northern Territory legal environment.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
