Data Engineer – Azure & Power BI (Hybrid, Canberra)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design and maintain modern, scalable data solutions for a nationally significant organisation. The role focuses on improving data accessibility, optimising enterprise platforms, and supporting better business decisions through high‑quality engineering practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and enterprise data solutions.
• Support data migration activities and reduce legacy data silos.
• Develop and optimise Power BI environments, datasets, dataflows and reporting services.
• Work with Azure Data Factory, Databricks and Synapse Analytics for large‑scale data processing.
• Monitor and troubleshoot data platforms to ensure stability and performance.
• Engage with business stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions.
• Support data governance, data quality and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong experience in data engineering, data integration and enterprise data management.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL and modern big‑data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark.
• Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI administration/development.
• Deep understanding of Azure data services including Azure Data Factory, Databricks and Synapse Analytics.
• Experience developing and supporting ETL processes, APIs and data connectors.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
