Chief Operating Officer

About the role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will join the executive team of Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, reporting to the Co‑CEOs and based in Ballarat or Geelong. The role ensures the organisation operates effectively, sustainably and in line with Wadawurrung values.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of finance, people & capability, governance, IT, cultural heritage, Caring for Country, engagement and commercial activities.
• Strengthen systems, processes and performance to support the organisation’s growth and strategic plan.
• Collaborate with senior leaders to create conditions for success and ensure accountability.
• Embed Wadawurrung cultural values across all operational functions.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience at COO, Executive Director or General Manager level.
• Strong financial and organisational capability with a track record of improving governance and performance.
• Experience in purpose‑led, not‑for‑profit, public sector or community‑focused organisations.
• Demonstrated respect for Aboriginal culture and commitment to self‑determination.
• Collaborative, integrity‑driven leadership style.
