Career Medical Officer – Night Shift at Royal Hobart Hospital

About the role

As a Career Medical Officer you will provide independent mental health medical services during night shifts at the Royal Hobart Hospital, reporting to the Clinical Director and working under the guidance of consultant psychiatrists.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise closely with consultant psychiatrists on patient assessment and management.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation including admissions, progress notes, decisions and discharge summaries.
• Ensure all medical decisions are clearly recorded in the patient record.
• Respond promptly to clinical calls from nursing and allied staff.
• Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice and prescribe, administer and document medications safely.
• Participate actively in discharge planning and continuity of care.
• Comply with professional, ethical and legal obligations, including the Tasmanian Mental Health Act.

Required profile

• Medical degree with current registration to practise in Tasmania.
• Experience in mental health or psychiatric medicine preferred.
• Ability to work independently during night shifts (22:30‑08:30) on a fortnightly roster.
• Strong communication skills for multidisciplinary collaboration.
